Carrier Selection: the right carrier for every lane

Selected objectively, checked carefully, assessed continuously.

Schematic illustration for Carrier Selection: the right carrier for every lane

Carrier selection means choosing the carriers that best fit your transport flows, requirements and quality standards. The choice of carrier directly determines how reliable your deliveries are, what they cost and how your end customers experience your organisation. Noventra selects and onboards carriers for you, based on fixed criteria and proven performance.

01

Independent selection

Noventra is an independent 4PL/5PL supply chain orchestrator, not a transport company and not a freight forwarder. That means we have no trucks of our own that need filling. Every carrier is assessed in the same way, with the same criteria and the same opportunities.

02

What do we select carriers on?

Insurance and liability
We check that the carrier holds appropriate carrier’s liability insurance, for both national transport (AVC) and international transport (CMR).

Certifications and legal requirements
Think of ADR certification for the transport of dangerous goods, compliance with driving and rest times and the use of a tachograph. The carrier remains responsible for complying with laws and regulations. We check that the basics are in order.

Equipment and capacity
Does the equipment suit your shipments? Among other things, we look at trailer types, such as mega trailers, refrigerated trailers, LHVs and trucks with a tail lift. The capacity available on your lanes and the ability to deploy replacement equipment at short notice in the event of a breakdown are also taken into account.

Digital connection and track & trace
Every carrier must have GPS and track & trace and be able to share status updates in OrangeChain, preferably automatically through a link with its own system. This keeps your view of the supply chain complete.

Performance and reliability
For existing carriers, we look at actual performance from Carrier Analytics: on-time performance, acceptance rate and the quality of status updates.

03

Onboarding under the Noventra SLA

A selected carrier goes through a verification and onboarding process before it can carry loads for you. Every carrier works under the Noventra Service Level Agreement, which sets out clear agreements on:

  • loading times and accepting loads
  • status updates within 30 minutes of every operational event
  • waiting time, cancellations and additional costs
  • safety on site and reporting incidents
  • claims and damage handling
04

Control over subcontracting

In many carrier networks, the shipper does not know who ultimately drives the load. At Noventra, we allow no more than one layer of subcontracting. We can exclude a specific subcontractor, and the carrier remains fully responsible. We also do not work with load boards or freight exchanges. So you always know who is carrying your goods.

05

Selection is not a one-off moment

A carrier that performs well today must keep doing so tomorrow. Loads are allocated on the basis of performance and agreed capacity. If a carrier falls below the standard, an improvement plan follows with a reassessment after two months. If no improvement follows, capacity is shifted to better-performing carriers in consultation with you. If you want to put your carriers out to tender more broadly, you can do so through Carrier Tendering.
