Carrier Tendering: a transport tender based on facts

The right rates, the right carriers, a fair comparison.

Schematic illustration for Carrier Tendering: a transport tender based on facts

Carrier tendering, also known as a transport tender or carrier procurement, is the process in which you put your transport volume out to carriers and select the best offer per lane. A good tender delivers lower transport costs and better service. A poor tender mostly delivers a lot of Excel work and rates that turn out not to hold up in practice. Noventra guides the entire process, from analysis to implementation.

Why a tender through Noventra?

As an independent 4PL/5PL supply chain orchestrator, we are not a carrier and not a freight forwarder. So we have no stake in which carrier wins the tender. We compare objectively, based on rate, performance and capacity. You make the commercial agreements on freight rates directly with the carrier. Noventra makes sure the process is sound and that the agreements are honoured in practice.

How a transport tender works at Noventra

  1. Analysis of your transport flowsWe map your current transport volume: lanes, volumes, shipment profiles, loading metres, pallets and weights, for both inbound and outbound. We also take special requirements into account, such as ADR, temperature-controlled transport or high-value goods. If transport data is already available in OrangeChain, we use it as the basis through Carrier Analytics.
  2. Drawing up the tender requestWe draw up a clear request per lane, with the associated service conditions from the Noventra SLA. Carriers therefore know in advance exactly what is expected of them, which leads to more comparable quotes.
  3. Request to suitable carriersThe tender is sent out to carriers that match your lanes and requirements. New carriers first go through our Carrier Selection process before they can take part.
  4. Objective comparison of ratesCarriers submit rate cards in different forms: per kilo, per loading metre, per pallet or in tiers. We convert all rates to a single comparable basis per lane, so you compare like with like. Alongside the rate, we also weigh performance, capacity and service.
  5. Award and implementation in OrangeChainOnce you approve, the awarded rates are loaded straight into OrangeChain. From the first order, the system calculates with the correct rates and loads are allocated in line with the agreements.
03

After the tender: monitoring the agreements

A tender does not end with the award. Through OrangeChain, we track whether carriers keep their agreements, such as acceptance rate, on-time performance and additional costs. Savings are measured periodically against a benchmark agreed in advance. So you can see what the tender has actually delivered.
